Fourteenth Iwao Taizangama

‘The tradition of Arita and harmony with the present age’

It’s been 380 years or so since Iwao Taizangama inherited Odarugama which is one of old kama of Arita and well-known for a place of origin of white porcelain. It’s the fourteenth generation since the founder of Yarobe. The basic principle is ‘offer good thing in every age’, they are trying to fuse two completely different components which are traditional and new, and trying their best to quest the ceramic ware for making ceramics with its unique and dignity. Not only following an example of old ceramics or brand name products but also understanding its true meaning by adding a new method as much as possible to try to create a brand name in the present age, that is the heart of ‘meaning of brand name’.

The works of Taizangama have been created as above with various techniques which are from the traditional ones to present ones. Most especially the artworks of the gilt decoration that brings up the color, which gold foil and gold paint are burned on porcelain reach the summit of gaudy. On the other hand, originally a large type of porcelain was used to be Arita’s favorite technique but it temporary came to an end. The Taizangama revived it when having some difficulty in postwar and its situation has been continued up to today. There is a full of variety such as a big pot, dish, garden lantern, table and so forth. Their works have been supplied to the new Royal Palace building that was built in 1968.
